Nov. 11, 2009: the development of the basic English version, in which every of
the major 18 subjects has at least an introduction
providing basic info about it, is done.
Many subjects actually have much more in the form of secondary subjects and articles.
Kudos to Aryeh Malkin and Tzvi Ben-tzur for their effort on this
project!

Apr. 20, 2009: the huge project of translating from Hebrew 187 personal stories of Palyam & Aliya Bet
veterans is done.
Kudos to Aryeh Malkin (initial translation), Avi Livney
and Yoske Rom (proofreading & editing)
and Tzvi Ben-tzur (editing & publishing) for their dedicated work on this project!
If so many stories confuse you as to where to begin, may we suggest
Yossi Harel's story (click here). Yossi was the commander of the four biggest ships of Aliya Bet -
Exodus 1947, Knesset Israel & the two Pan's, that together carried 23,600 people - about third of all the ma'apilim (illegal immigrants) of Aliya Bet after WW-II.
Exodus and Knesset Israel were also the battlegrounds of two of the more bitter clashes with British forces during Aliya Bet,
resulting in few casualties and hundreds of wounded. The especially moving & unique story of Exodus
made her the flagship and undisputed symbol of Aliya Bet.

The Annual Palyam & Aliya Bet Veterans Meet took place on May 23rd, 2009.
The meet focused on the British
detention camps in Cyprus, in commemoration of 60 years to their abolishment. A
total of 51,530 ma'apilim were deported to the camps from 39 Aliya Bet ships that
were intercepted by the British Navy between Aug. 8, 1946 and Apr. 26, 1948. Add
to this number 2,200 babies born inside the camps.

The English version of the Palyam website is, unfortunately,
quite low on content
compared to the Hebrew version. This is
due to lack of resources, as the task of translating the entire Hebrew content into English is beyond our capabilities (all work on this website is
done by very few volunteers).
Nevertheless, a lot of progress has been made to beef up the English version and make it viable and worth exploring.
